Ladle & tundish refractory nozzle
Refractory nozzles refer to nozzle devices made of refractory materials, which are widely used in high-temperature industries such as steel smelting, especially in the process of molten steel pouring.
The function of the nozzle is to guide the high-temperature molten steel from one container (such as a converter or tundish) to flow into another container (such as a casting mold or continuous casting crystallizer), while also controlling the flow rate of the molten steel and preventing oxidation and inclusions from intruding.
Refractory Nozzle Products
Ladle refractory materials are key materials used in the metallurgical industry to control the flow of molten steel. They need to have high temperature erosion resistance, wear resistance and good thermal stability.
During the steel smelting process, the nozzle, slide and nozzle are responsible for finely controlling the flow of molten steel. The nozzle controls the flow rate and flow of molten steel, the slide guides the metal to flow smoothly, and the nozzle achieves precise pouring.
Types of refractory nozzles
Refractory nozzles are usually made of high-performance refractory materials and can withstand high temperatures, high pressures and chemical corrosion. According to their uses and functions, refractory nozzles can be divided into the following types:
Installed at the bottom of the tundish, connecting the tundish and the crystallizer, controlling the flow and stability of the molten steel to the crystallizer, with oxidation resistance and good sealing performance.
Installed at the bottom of the ladle, used to control the speed and flow of molten steel from the ladle into the tundish, with strong resistance to high temperature, erosion and corrosion.
A control device for molten steel during the casting process of the continuous casting machine, used for the ladle and the tundish, suitable for processes that require precise control of the flow of molten steel.
Used between the tundish and the crystallizer, it plays a role in protecting the molten steel, avoiding contact between the molten steel and the air, preventing oxidation and the formation of secondary inclusions.
The main function of the refractory sleeve for pouring continuous steel casting equipment is to prevent secondary oxidation and splashing of molten steel from the tundish injection flow.
Block or open the nozzle through a vertically inserted refractory rod (stopper rod) to adjust the flow of molten steel.
Commonly used between the tundish and the crystallizer.

Application of refractory nozzle
The nozzle plays the core role of guiding and controlling the flow of molten steel in the continuous casting process. It has the function of guiding and purifying molten steel, improving the purity of molten steel, and improving the performance and quality of steel.
Ladle → Tundish:
Our nozzle is made of corrosion-resistant materials (such as Al₂O₃-ZrO₂ composite materials), which can withstand the continuous flushing of high-temperature molten steel (above 1600℃).
Tundish → Crystallizer:
The submerged nozzle (SEN) is suitable for high-oxygen sensitive steel grades (such as silicon steel and stainless steel) to prevent inclusions caused by secondary oxidation.
Adaptation of different continuous casting machine models:
Using long-life zirconia-based nozzles, with a slide system to dynamically adjust the flow, the nozzle can be quickly replaced to improve production efficiency.
Our product advantages
The performance advantages of our refractory nozzles are derived from the continuous optimization of material innovation, structural design and manufacturing process. Choose our refractory nozzles for your steel manufacturing and metallurgical engineering manufacturing to save your time and production costs and improve your benefits.
Material properties:
- Zirconium oxide (ZrO₂): With a melting point of up to 2700°C and high strength at high temperatures, it is suitable for the head of the submerged nozzle.
- Graphite reinforcement: Graphite (10-30%) in Al₂O₃-C material can absorb thermal stress and improve thermal shock resistance by more than 50%.
Industrial benefits:
- It can work continuously for more than 8 hours at 1600°C without frequent replacement, ensuring continuous casting continuity.
Slag erosion resistance:
- Composite material design: ZrO₂-CaO coating can resist the reaction of SiO₂ and CaO in steel slag, extending the service life by 20%-30%.
Steel scouring resistance:
- Densification sintering process: through isostatic pressing and high-temperature sintering, the porosity is reduced (<15%) and the penetration of molten steel is reduced.
Accurate flow control:
- Immersed nozzle multi-porous design: double-hole or four-hole structure disperses steel flow, reduces turbulence in the crystallizer, and reduces the risk of slag roll-up.
- After customers use our four-hole nozzle, the incidence of cracks on the slab surface drops by 40%.
Gas washing technology:
- Argon protection: Argon is blown into the side wall of the nozzle to reduce the contact between molten steel and air, and the inclusion content is reduced by 15%-20%.
Quick replacement technology:
- Modular design: For example, the tundish nozzle supports online replacement (completed within 3 minutes), reducing downtime losses.
Layered utilization of composite materials:
- Gradient structure: high wear resistance (ZrO₂) in the head, thermal shock resistance (Al₂O₃-C) in the middle, reducing overall costs.
- Embedded sensor: real-time monitoring of nozzle temperature and erosion status, predicting life and optimizing replacement cycle.
- Low-carbon material: Develop graphite-free or low-carbon nozzles (such as MgO-CaO system) to reduce production carbon emissions.
- High-quality products: all products pass rigorous quality tests, meeting and exceeding industry standards and reducing production disruptions.
- Customised service: sizes, materials and designs are adapted to meet the specific requirements of the ladle and intermediate packages.
- Technical support: a dedicated team provides process optimisation advice to help customers improve efficiency, such as optimising flow control to reduce turbulence.
- Cost-effectiveness: Durable products with extended life cycles reduce maintenance and replacement costs and are suitable for large-scale production.
- Industry experience: We have many years of experience in steelmaking refractory manufacturing, serving customers around the world and accumulating a wealth of case studies.
